The fine print
- What you keep over 25 years. Solar comes to $127,164 less than staying with Ameren Illinois, counting both the payment and the power bill you still receive. The proposal prices your solar power at $0.174 a kWh against the $0.202 a kWh you pay Ameren Illinois today.
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $220 a month, escalated at 24% this year, Ameren's actual increase, then 13.5% per year through year 5 and 7% per year after that, against what solar costs you all in: the PPA payment plus the power bill you still receive after solar. Leaving that remaining bill out would make this plan look far better than it is.
- The solar payment is not fixed. It starts at $112.24 a month and rises 2.99% every 12 months for the full term, reaching $228 a month in year 25. This is a LightReach Predictable PPA, 25 yr, so you buy the power the system makes rather than owning it.
- You still get a power bill. You stay connected to Ameren Illinois. The proposal puts that remaining bill at $605 a year in year one. A 105% offset does not take the bill to zero, and it is included in every figure on this page.
- Ameren Illinois rates are moving. Ameren Illinois residential rates are up about 94 percent since 2021, from roughly 8 cents a kWh to about 15.5 cents a kWh in 2026. The supply rate rose again on June 1 2026, from 8.769 cents to about 11 cents a kWh, driven by Illinois Commerce Commission approved increases and a sharp rise in regional capacity prices. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
